The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) is responsible for implementing various environmental policies, including enforcement of environmental legislation, management of the operation of major waste treatment and disposal facilities, planning for new facilities to collect, treat and disposal of waste, implementation of waste reduction and recycling programmes, management of the environmental impact assessment process of major projects, as well as organisation of various community and educational activities aimed at increasing environmental awareness. 

Currently, we are facing enormous environmental problems and challenges. To this end, the EEB has promulgated a number of blueprints, including Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050, Waste Blueprint for Hong Kong 2035, Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles and Clean Air Plan for Hong Kong 2035, setting out new targets, strategies and action plans in the respective areas. We will ensure smooth and effective implementation of the various policies and measures stipulated in the blueprints.

To achieve our vision and mission, we are also striving to enhance the professionalism, and adopt new methodologies to meet these challenges; and will ensure the professional and technical excellence of the department in the delivery of public services. Together with the pubic, we will build Hong Kong into a healthier and more livable city.
