AIILSG, founded in 1926, is a government-recognised premier institution in India’s urban governance landscape, with over nine decades of experience in strengthening local self-governance, municipal service delivery, and sustainable urban development. Through its education courses and customised training programs, AIILSG Mumbai empowers Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) with practical skills and knowledge for effective governance. Its expertise spans solid and liquid waste management, environmental assessments, climate governance, and sustainable infrastructure. AIILSG offers diploma and certificate programs such as the Sanitary Inspectors’ Diploma, Diploma in Local Government Services, and various public health diplomas, along with thematic and mission-linked trainings in multiple languages. With 45+ regional centres across India, it provides capacity building in water, sanitation, and municipal services. As a national training institution under AMRUT, ICBP, and Swachh Bharat Mission, AIILSG has pioneered blended learning models and field-based training. It also serves as Secretariat of the Maharashtra WASH-ES Coalition, supported by UNICEF since 2021.
