Short Course on Pollution and Water Quality Management

Institute for Water and Sanitation Development – IWSD

This course equips participants with essential technical, regulatory, and management knowledge for assessing and managing water quality and pollution within a catchment. It emphasizes the importance of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting physical, chemical, and biological data to support effective management of aquatic ecosystems. Participants will gain an understanding of various freshwater quality monitoring techniques – both field and laboratory-based—and how to select appropriate methods for different contexts. The course covers planning and refining water quality monitoring programs, designing monitoring networks, selecting key variables, and interpreting data for informed decision-making. It also introduces tools and instruments relevant to water pollution control and resource management, enabling participants to apply this knowledge to protect and improve the quality of groundwater and surface water bodies.
