Post-graduate Professional Diploma in Sanitation and Wastewater Management

Institute for Water and Sanitation Development – IWSD

Persistent water pollution and freshwater scarcity continue to pose serious public health and environmental threats in developing countries, largely due to the widespread discharge of untreated wastewater. Despite advances in wastewater collection and treatment, reliance on centralized, high-maintenance sewer systems – often ill-suited to the realities of rapid urbanization, limited technical capacity, and financial constraints—remains problematic. In response, IWSD is offering a Post-Graduate Professional Diploma in Sanitation and Wastewater Management. The program aligns with Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 1 and the Sustainable Development Goals, providing WASH professionals with a critical platform to examine current sanitation systems amidst growing urban and climate-related pressures. The course covers core modules on context-specific sanitation and wastewater management for humanitarian, developmental, simple, and complex settings. It also explores practical, climate-smart technologies tailored to diverse community needs, equipping participants to lead sustainable and resilient sanitation interventions.
