Master of Urban Infrastructure – WASH
CEPT UniversityMaster’s in Urban Infrastructure (MUI) at CEPT University prepares students to become infrastructure professionals equipped to address the challenges of rapid urbanization. The program offers interdisciplinary training in planning, designing, and managing urban infrastructure systems across scales from local to global. It emphasizes technical, environmental, financial, and institutional aspects of infrastructure delivery, aligned with national missions such as Smart Cities, AMRUT, Swachh Bharat etc. Students gain hands-on experience through studios, field visits, and research, with exposure to tools for project appraisal, policy analysis, and system design. Within the program, a specialized major in WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), supported by IHE Delft as part of the Global Sanitation Graduate School, focuses on addressing sanitation challenges and advancing inclusive services. WASH majors receive fellowships and research funding, with a preference for women candidates. Graduates are awarded the degree of Master of Planning (Urban Infrastructure). For WASH majors, this specialization is formally recorded in the transcript.
Curriculum
The MUI program is structured across four semesters, beginning with a common foundation semester shared by all M.Plan students. This includes core courses such as Understanding the City, Quantitative Analysis and Reasoning, Writing the City, and Microeconomics in Urban Planning. From the second semester onward, students engage in infrastructure-specific subjects including City Infrastructure Planning Studio, Financing Urban Infrastructure, WASH Systems and Services, and History of Urban Planning. The third semester deepens technical and managerial expertise through courses like Infrastructure Project Studio, Urban Water and Sanitation Planning, Project Appraisal and Finance, and Urban Governance and Public Policy. The final semester includes the Directed Research Project Final (DRP)/Thesis, along with Sustainable Development and Resilient Cities, Professional Practice for Urban Infrastructure, and Public Health and Behavior Change.
