Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), a part of the ETH Domain, is a leading aquatic research institute, operating at the interface of science, technology, and society. Eawag conducts cutting-edge research on water ecosystems, water infrastructure, and sustainable water management. Its interdisciplinary approach combines natural and social sciences to develop innovative, practical solutions for global water challenges, with a strong emphasis on knowledge transfer and collaboration with stakeholders worldwide. The Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development Department (Sandec) at Eawag conducts research on innovative, evidence-based methods, best practices, and technologies. Together these aim to improve and enable access to inclusive, sustainable sanitation, water and solid waste infrastructure and services for low- and middle-income countries. Core to Sandec’s strategy is an open-access eLearning programme that is self-paced. The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) series “Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development” has reached so far a global of audience of over 200,000 learners.
