Water supply and sewage treatment coverage in South Goa (India)
The Public Works Department, Goa supplies 560 MLD of drinking water to people Goa. The demand of water is 645 MLD and there is a shortfall of 85 MLD. The sewage treatment plants in Goa have a capacity of 78.55 MLD and actual sewage treated is 21.07 MLD. 17% of households are connected to the sewage network. Balance households are adopting conventional septic tank and soak pit arrangements wherever sewerage networks are not available or not commissioned. This study focuses on the water supply and sewage provision gap in South Goa and the adverse pollution affects caused to the major rivers of South Goa which are Zuari, Sal and Talpona.
