Three GSGS RH WCIOA academic partners have launched new batches for the 2025-2026 academic year

News

The 2025-2026 academic year has begun for the Non-Sewered Sanitation (NSS) Master programs. Classes have started in a staggered fashion since September 29, 2025, in three partner institutions of the Global Sanitation Graduate School Regional Hub for West, Central, and Indian Ocean Africa (GSGS RH WCIOA), coordinated by the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE).

The launch of the new academic cohorts took place in a staggered manner, beginning last September 29th at the Félix Houphouët Boigny University (UFHB) in Côte d’Ivoire. The UFHB welcomed its 4th cohort, comprising 7 students, including 5 women, thus highlighting the importance of the inclusive approach. This enrollment dynamic continued on October 6, 2025, with the simultaneous inauguration of the 5th cohort at two other locations : 2iE in Burkina Faso, which registered the largest group with 14 students (10 women), and the University of Man in Côte d’Ivoire, which welcomed 11 students (9 men). This staggered deployment clearly illustrates the decentralized nature of the Hub and emphasizes its primary commitment to inclusion in recruitment, as the cohort is made up of students originating from various African countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Bénin, Cameroun, Sénégal, Niger, Burundi, Tchad, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This inaugural wave marks only the beginning. It will be quickly followed by the launch of the academic year at the Regional Hub’s other partner universities. These launches will notably extend to the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Cheikh Anta Diop University (Senegal), Jean Lorougnon Guédé University (Côte d’Ivoire), the Centre for Water and Sanitation Studies at Rivers State University (Nigeria), the University of Ebolowa (Cameroon), and the University of Lagos (Nigeria). The Hub’s expansion dynamic is thus confirmed, with the forthcoming integration of new institutions.
