The Institute of Environmental Sciences (ISE) in Senegal welcomes its first cohort of the Professional Master’s Program in Sanitation

The Institute of Environmental Sciences (ISE) at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, an academic partner of the Global Sanitation Graduate School Regional Hub for West, Central and Indian Ocean Africa (GSGS RH WCIOA), officially launched the first cohort of its Professional Master’s Program in Sanitation on April 13, 2026.

Comprised of seven students, including professionals from Senegal and Cameroon, this first cohort illustrates the program’s growing regional appeal. It is also notable for its strong female representation, with six women enrolled, reflecting the program’s commitment to women’s leadership in the sanitation sector.

As part of this launch, the new cohort received a visit from a delegation from the GSGS RH WCIOA regional coordination team, led by Professor Harinaivo Anderson Andrianisa, Regional Director of the Hub. Professor Andrianisa was in Dakar on a mission to strengthen partnerships for the program in Senegal. This meeting provided an opportunity to present the students with the ambitions and opportunities offered by the GSGS RH WCIOA regional network, to discuss expectations, and to commend ISE’s strategic commitment to deploying the program at the sub-regional level.

The two-year training program combines academic instruction, professional development, and practical immersion, with the aim of training a new generation of professionals capable of providing innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions to the sanitation challenges in Africa.

L’Institut des Sciences de l’Environnement (ISE) de l’Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, partenaire académique du Global Sanitation Graduate School Regional Hub for West, Central and Indian Ocean Africa (GSGS RH WCIOA), a officiellement lancé, le 13 avril 2026, la première cohorte de son Master Professionnel en Assainissement Productif.

Composée de sept apprenants dont des professionnels originaires du Sénégal et du Cameroun, cette première promotion illustre l’attractivité régionale croissante du programme. Elle se distingue également par une forte représentativité féminine, avec six femmes inscrites, traduisant l’engagement du programme en faveur du leadership féminin dans les métiers de l’assainissement.

Dans le cadre de ce lancement, la nouvelle promotion a reçu la visite d’une délégation de la coordination régionale du GSGS RH WCIOA conduite par le Pr Harinaivo Anderson Andrianisa, Directeur régional du Hub, présente à Dakar pour une mission de renforcement des partenariats du programme au Sénégal. Cette rencontre a permis de présenter aux étudiants les ambitions et opportunités offertes par le réseau régional GSGS RH WCIOA, d’échanger sur les attentes de part et d’autres, tout en saluant l’engagement stratégique de l’ISE dans le déploiement du programme à l’échelle sous-régionale.

Prévue sur une durée de deux ans, la formation combine enseignements académiques, approches professionnalisantes et immersion pratique, avec l’ambition de former une nouvelle génération de professionnels capables d’apporter des réponses innovantes, inclusives et durables aux défis de l’assainissement en Afrique.
