Thesis summary

The development of slum settlements is increasing in Indonesia, one of which is in Pontianak City where most of the slum settlements are on the banks of the Kapuas River. In dealing with sanitation problems in slum settlements, it is necessary to involve stakeholders. Slum settlements in Pontianak City are caused by several things, namely the basic facilities and infrastructure that are available of inadequate quality and the lack of public understanding of the importance of a healthy environment. In this research, the power-interest matrix and social network analysis methods were used by collecting data through FGDs. The results showed that there were 47 stakeholders consisting of the government, private sector, civil society and academia who played a role in handling sanitation, where each stakeholder played a role in planning, building, operating and monitoring sanitation handling in the slums of Pontianak City. There were 6 key players, 15 subjects, 17 crowds, and 10 context setters, where key player had a major role in handling sanitation, thus all stakeholders can contribute optimally to improving sanitation in Pontianak City slums. The cooperative relationship that occurs between stakeholders in handling sanitation in Pontianak City slums is not strong so it needs to be improved. Strategies can be implemented in slum settlements are by holding coordination meetings, making annual reports, conducting socialization, conducting regular monitoring and etc.
