Sewerage system analysis (Cameroon)
This study, had as specific objectives to: (i) carry out a diagnosis of the sewerage system from the Cité Verte Camp Sic, (ii) analyze the causes linked to the malfunction of the structures and propose solutions with a view to improving the operation of the network, and (iii) evaluate the financial cost of the project to be implemented. These objectives were attained through the collection of data obtained through the use of existing technical reports linked to the theme and the study area, Master Plan and land use plans, research dissertations and scientific articles, direct observations, field work, interviews with residents and discussions with those responsible for specialized wastewater management services. The results obtained show that the structures of the semi-collective network of the camp are dilapidated, obsolete and no longer play their role. At least, 60% of the manholes are no longer operational since they are blocked by household solid waste or defective due to their degradation. The wastewater treatment plant is abandoned and its purification performance is reduced by half, and no longer guarantees the protection of the environment and the health of the population. This situation is due not only to the long history of the works, but above all to the incivility of households and the absence of a real upkeep and maintenance program for the network. After having evaluated the cost of the proposed solution, namely the total rehabilitation of the network, we formulate that a decree from the Head of State be signed to definitively entrust the maintenance of the Camp Sic network of the Cité Verte to the Camroonian Real Estate Company.
