Guidelines for safely managed water and sanitation in the schools of Nepal (Nepal)

In Nepal, 25% of government school lacks improved water and sanitation facilities. The main objective of this study is to analyze level of water and sanitation facilities available in schools and to develop a guideline for safely managed water and sanitation facilities in schools. In this study, 15 government schools from the Haripur municipality were selected which involves both qualitative and quantitative approach of survey. The survey was conducted in the schools using Kobo toolbox software and the data was collected from the respondents by means of the questionnaires with both quantitative and qualitative approach. It was found that 87% and 93% of the schools have reached to basic water and sanitation service level respectively. Likewise, none of the schools were found to have safely managed water and sanitation services in their schools. All the schools lack safely managed water and sanitation facilities. And from qualitative approach of survey and documents reviewing, the guideline for safely managed water and snatiation were recommended. So, the schools and municipalities should effectively work on water treatment and sludge treatment technologies and follow the guideline to reach in safely managed water and sanitation facilities level.
