GSGS explores expansion to Western Balkans

News

Water and sanitation experts from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine gathered in Budva to develop curricula and capacity-building pathways on climate-resilient cities and city-wide inclusive sanitation, tailored to the realities of the Western Balkans. A strong momentum was created fostering institutional dialogues, ensuring that regional cooperation translates soon into local impact through series of short courses and possibly, a regional master’s program on climate resilient cities. The enthusiasm, active participation, and positive feedback of the participants provides solid ground to believe in a formation of regional academic network that will embrace new curriculum and train and educate many individuals from the Western Balkans to address the current and future challenges with deeper insight, enhanced skills and elevated confidence.

Curriculum development sessions were facilitated by Prof. Damir Brdjanovic and Prof. Zoran Vojinovic of IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. GSGS is grateful to Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the Regional Climate Partnership of GIZ for making this event possible.
