Eawag and GSGS renew collaboration to drive global sanitation education and research

Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, and the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) are pleased to announce the continuation of their long-standing cooperation, reinforcing their joint commitment to advancing sanitation education, research, and innovation worldwide.
Eawag has been a key partner of the GSGS since its inception, playing a central role in shaping the curriculum of the Master of Science in Sanitation, the flagship program of the GSGS. Over the years, Eawag experts have actively contributed to teaching, co-supervising Master’s thesis projects, and delivering courses at IHE Delft and beyond.
In collaboration with IHE Delft, Eawag co-authored the influential IWA book on Faecal Sludge Management, which has been translated into multiple languages and is widely used in the GSGS curriculum alongside the FSM Highlights and Exercises book and Eawag’s popular online MOOC series Sanitation, Water and Solid Waste for Development.
As a co-founder of the Global Partnership of Laboratories for Faecal Sludge Analysis, Eawag also contributes to advancing laboratory methods, including the IWA book Methods for Faecal Sludge Analysis, and plays an active role in building the global faecal sludge database – both of which are essential components of the GSGS knowledge and practice toolbox.
“We are proud to continue our collaboration with the GSGS,” said Dr. Linda Strande, Head of Department and Research Group Leader at Sandec – Eawag. “Together, we are equipping the next generation of sanitation professionals with the skills, tools, and knowledge they need to make a lasting impact on global health and sustainability.”
Through this renewed cooperation, Eawag and GSGS will continue to expand opportunities for students, researchers, and practitioners worldwide, ensuring that sanitation solutions are science-based, practical, and scalable.
