Dr. Rose Christine Kaggwa recognised at AfWASA Congress as African Women in WASH Awards launch in Yaoundé
Dr. Rose Christine Kaggwa, Director of the Global Sanitation Graduate School Regional Hub East and Southern Africa, was honoured with the African Women in WASH Award during the AfWASA International Congress held in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The recognition formed part of the newly launched African Women in WASH Awards, an initiative by the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA) in partnership with the Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN). The awards were established to celebrate and elevate the contributions of women professionals who are advancing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) across Africa.
The initiative spotlighted leaders across multiple categories, recognising excellence in areas such as institutional leadership, innovation, advocacy, technical expertise, and sector transformation. By highlighting diverse contributions within utilities, research, policy, and community engagement, the awards aim to strengthen visibility, mentorship, and inclusive leadership within the African WASH sector.
Dr. Kaggwa was recognised for her exceptional leadership vision and transformative impact in advancing WASH through institutional strengthening, scientific excellence, and continental collaboration. In her role at National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), she has contributed to strengthening business and scientific services frameworks, while her position as Vice President of the International Water Association (IWA) continues to amplify African leadership on global water platforms.
The launch of the African Women in WASH Awards marks a significant milestone in promoting gender equity and professional recognition within the sector. Her honour at the continental congress reflects both her individual contribution and the growing influence of African women shaping the future of sustainable water and sanitation services.
