Design of a FSTP in Dimbokro (Côte d’Ivoire)

Thesis summary

The purpose of this study was to design a faecal sludge treatment plant in the city of Dimbokro. We measured the quantities and characteristics of Faecal soil in Dimbokro. The unplanted drying bed combined with lagoons is our proposal because it is efficient, feasible, and inexpensive. After that, the treatment plant was sized using hydraulics. The result showed that the sizing, the Dimbokro plant will include a sludge pre-treatment system comprising a 39.97 m³ sludge reception structure, a bar screen channel and a grit removal channel; a sludge treatment system consisting of 24 unplanted drying beds, each with a capacity of
80.04 m³ each; a liquid fraction treatment system comprising a 114.3 m³ anaerobic tank and two optional tanks of 100 m³ and 90 m³ respectively. The dimensioned structures will enable by-products at the plant outlet to meet the discharge standards in Côte d’Ivoire by complying with abatement rates for each stage of faecal sludge treatment.
