Design of a compact sewage treatment plant (India)
The area requirement for Pune Elevated Metro car workshop is 43 acres, but land acquisition was done of 37 acres resulted the reduction of the utilities are. To fit into the available land parcel, sewage treatment plant (STP) with compact electro-processor technology design is proposed. Electro-processor STP occupies less space and system operates with high efficiency and effectiveness. The components of this STP are: bar screen chamber, equalization tank with aeration system, iron-cell reactor, electro-cell reactor, and filter press for liquid/solid (sludge) separation. The by-product such as treated sludge is used as manure for plantation in around the metro car depot. Electro-processor treatment systems are cheaper and easy to operate with low OPEX, the land requirement is usually very minimum. Sludge drying beds to dry and reduce the drying time require quite some land. The removal of water by filter press is expected to reduce the drying time. The trail runs for reduction in drying time are still under study and the experiment will be completed by the end of this year. Both these studies were conducted as a part of off-campus thesis at CDD Society, India and as part of their ongoing projects.
