Climate resilience in Ahmedabad (India)
The purpose of the study was to review the perception, aspirations, and actions toward climate resilience. This study aims to understand the emerging role of infrastructure planning in achieving climate resilience in the city of Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad is one of the drought hotspots in Gujarat and has been facing extreme climate events for the past decade. The study is conducted to achieve the following objectives, i.e., to examine the relevance of existing climate resilience frameworks in the context of Ahmedabad. The methodology followed through Literature review and Case studies to understand Climate change and its impact, need of climate resilience, interventions taken globally and in the context of Indian cities, climate financing, institutional framework and various case studies. To understand the perception of climate resilience among urban development professionals of the state. The Assessment is done through perception surveys related to climate related activities and the challenges towards achieving the climate related policies and schemes at implementation level. “To examine the responses of Ahmedabad to the emerging needs to become climate resilient. Stakeholder consultations were conducted to individuals and organizations that are major stakeholders in Ahmedabad by understanding the climate information and conceptions toward how the policies and schemes are working in Ahmedabad. The result of the study is by assessment frameworks and Critical Impact assessment and through findings and some relevant policy recommendations that can be prioritized in Ahmedabad.
