BORDA Zambia and University of Zambia Break Ground for Sanitation Hub Centre of Excellence
A significant step towards strengthening sanitation education, research, and innovation in Zambia has been marked with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Sanitation Hub Centre of Excellence, a collaborative initiative between BORDA Zambia and the University of Zambia.
The ceremony, held on Friday, 23 October 2026, marked the beginning of a project aimed at enhancing infrastructure for sanitation training, research, and practical learning.
The planned facility will feature a state-of-the-art laboratory and classrooms designed to support academic instruction, technical training, and research activities in sanitation and wastewater management.
Through this collaboration, BORDA Zambia and the University of Zambia seek to strengthen the connection between academic knowledge and practical solutions to sanitation challenges. The facility is expected to provide an enabling environment for students, researchers, and sanitation professionals to develop technical expertise and explore innovative approaches to sustainable sanitation.
The initiative also reflects the growing importance of institutional partnerships in advancing sanitation education and professional capacity development across Africa.
As the sanitation sector continues to evolve, investments in modern learning and research infrastructure remain essential to developing skilled professionals capable of addressing emerging environmental and public health challenges.
The establishment of the Sanitation Hub Centre of Excellence represents a promising step towards strengthening Zambia’s contribution to sanitation research, innovation, and capacity development in the region.
