Assessment of WASH and SWM (Bangladesh)
Bangladesh has made notable development in the field of sanitation. Bangladesh Government and some NGOs are working to achieve the targets set for sanitation in the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This study analyzes water, sanitation, hygiene, and waste management practices in two tea estates of the Moulvibazar district namely Shamshernagar Tea Estate and Alinagar Tea Estate. The objective of this project is to find out whether the water, sanitation, and hygiene practices of tea garden workers are safe and adequate to improve their health conditions or not. Sylhet is the highest tea producer region in the country. There is not sufficient reliable information available on the health and hygiene status of tea garden workers of the Moulvibazar district to assess their water, sanitation, hygiene, and waste management practices. To describe the water, sanitation, hygiene, and waste management practices among tea garden workers of the Moulvibazar district, a household-based survey in two different tea gardens has been conducted. The socio-economic conditions and WASH practices of the participants were recorded through a questionnaire survey. The results of the survey reveal that the prime constraint to achieving basic sanitation facilities is economic crisis. The proper physical well-being of the population can be developed through better access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation facilities, appropriate hygiene practices, increased health awareness, and improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the tea garden workers
