Analysis of FSM in Daloa (Côte d’Ivoire)

Thesis summary

Similar to other urban areas in Côte d’Ivoire, Daloa is facing significant challenges in wastewater and excreta sanitation. The lack of financial resources and insufficient attention given to this critical aspect of development are the reason for these issues. Our study aims to uncover the socio-economic and health effects of faecal sludge management to develop more effective strategies for planning and organizing the sector. Our approach included conducting in-depth household surveys, interviewing sanitation professionals, and conducting environmental observations to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation. Our research revealed that there are numerous dumping sites, health risks, and environmental impacts associated with current faecal sludge management practices. In order to address these concerns, we propose several improvements, including improved management sector organization, enhanced household toilets, and the treatment and reuse of sludge for agricultural purposes.
