A study on municipal solid waste management in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (India)
Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), Telangana, was selected as one of the cities under Smart City Mission by the union Government in the year of 2015. The city currently has a population of around 1 million and is rapidly growing. Municipal solid waste management becomes a hassle for a rapidly growing city like Warangal. During my research work with GWMC, I got a chance to interact and work along with prominent people in the Municipal Corporation. During my stint, I was involved in studying the current MSWM operations and infrastructure in the city, a behaviour assessment for source segregation, characteristics of daily MSW generated, and population forecast, and per-capita waste generation forecast for the year 2040 of the rapidly urbanising city of Warangal.
